Missing Letters Worksheet Generator

Paste a word list and every word comes back as letter boxes with a few missing — fill-in practice that targets spelling recall instead of recognition. Choose which letters disappear: random spots, the vowels, or the first letters for beginners.

Like every generator here, the worksheet lives at its own link: the same URL always rebuilds the same blanks, so a practice page can be assigned, lost, and reprinted identical next week.

FAQ

How many letters can be hidden per word?

One, two or three — and never so many that the word stops being guessable. Short words automatically hide fewer letters.

What is the vowels mode for?

English spelling is hardest where the vowel is. Hiding only A, E, I, O, U turns the worksheet into focused vowel discrimination — the standard intervention for 'invented spelling' that runs out of vowels.

Is there an answer key?

Yes — the key prints the same rows with the missing letters filled in and highlighted, so checking a page takes seconds.

Can I use my own word list?

That is the whole point: paste any words into the box. The Dolch lists on the Word lists pages also come with ready-made missing-letters pages.
